Repulse Bay (2,500 sq.ft + 2,000 sq.ft roof)

Brief

The owners wanted a combination of European minimalism mixed with highly ornate, traditional Chinese furnishings. Stunning views of the mountains had to be highlighted effectively.

Challenge

The challenge that emerged was purely design based. The normally complicated “East meets West” design brief was made even more so with the contrasting aesthetics of the owner’s ornate Chinese furniture and their proposed pure white interior design.

Solution

An elegant solution was formed by highlighting the contrasts between the European and Chinese influences. The entire apartment was designed according to clean, white lines that ran through the kitchen and bathrooms. All of the Chinese furniture was matched in a dark, rich wood and large Chinese decorative elements such as the tv stand were built into the space to balance the colors. The green of the outdoor mountains were skillfully framed using full-height windows. To keep the apartment looking uncluttered, several hidden storage units were built.
